Prototype Plans: These are pre-approved retirement plans. Each plan consists of an adoption agreement and its corresponding Basic Plan and Trust. The adoption agreements are offered in easy-to-use formats such as XPress® and more complex Nonstandardized formats. Cross-Tested adoption agreements are now available as pre-approved prototype plans.

Individualized Plans: This is the Cash Balance Plan.

Volume Submitter Plans: These are pre-approved retirement plans. Each plan consists of a Plan and Trust. There is no adoption agreement as in a prototype. The Volume Submitter plans include in them the Cross Tested and Age Based allocation formulas.

Other Benefit Plans: These are non pre-approved plans such as a Cafeteria Plan (also known as Section 125 Plans) or 403(b) plans.
